If we categorize solutions based on how they come about, we would say that there are two kinds of solutions. One kind are natural solutions. These are ones that come gradually and almost automatically. Humans riding horses will want faster horses when they want to travel faster. And they will succeed in travelling faster by selectively breeding for faster horses. Similarly, people building vacuums will try to build ones with bigger motors for more suction. These solutions will come about almost automatically. Anyone working on building something will try to keep making the same types of changes to make the thing better. Then there are the second kind of solutions which are unnatural. These aren't the kind of solutions that come automatically. Like the building of cars to travel faster instead of horses. Or like the building of vacuums using mini cyclones to filter dust out instead of filtration bags. And these are the kind of solutions that are fun to look for. Though it's not necessary that such solutions exist for every problem. And even if they do exist, there is a possibility that they might never be found. So it's probably a good thing that these solutions are fun to look for. Otherwise we would never get a Dyson.
